Fans Speak Out After Behavior At US Open

Ah, what’s a US Open without a little pop culture circus, right? Over the weekend, tennis fans were treated not just to world-class tennis but also to an impromptu high school prom performance courtesy of Taylor Swift and her new best buddy, NFL star Travis Kelce.

The two were caught on camera belting out I Believe in a Thing Called Love by The Darkness like it was a bad karaoke night. Forget the elite athleticism on the court—Swift and Kelce decided they were the real show.

Naturally, the internet was quick to weigh in and let’s just say not everyone was thrilled by the display. Tennis fans, who presumably showed up for, you know, tennis, didn’t exactly appreciate the pair turning Arthur Ashe Stadium into their own personal music video. According to the Daily Mail, many on social media were downright appalled, calling out their behavior as immature and trashy. Who knew Swift and Kelce were auditioning for “Dancing with the Stars” at a tennis match?

Even Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, seemed less than impressed by the duo’s antics. In what might be the most relatable reaction of the night, Brittany turned to Patrick and asked, “Do you know this song?” to which Mahomes responded with a solid “Like, what?”—capturing what most of us were thinking as Swift and Kelce stole the spotlight, but for all the wrong reasons.

The real kicker here is that many fans on social media called Swift and Kelce out for what this really was: a desperate bid for attention. Acting like teenagers for the cameras because, apparently, the world hasn’t seen enough of the Swift-Kelce spectacle yet. So while Jannik Sinner was busy defeating Taylor Fritz, it seems the real competition was happening in the stands—except Swift and Kelce weren’t winning any points with the tennis crowd.
