Gwen Stefani is facing backlash from some of her liberal fans after sharing an interview featuring actor Jonathan Roumie on Tucker Carlson’s show. Stefani, 55, praised the conversation between Carlson and Roumie, a devout Catholic known for portraying Jesus in The Chosen and evangelist Lonnie Frisbee in Jesus Revolution.
“Wow Jonathan Roumie, you are a powerful inspirational human, what an enlightening intelligent beautiful interview thank you for being you gx,” Stefani wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Roumie spoke with Carlson about his faith, his role in the crowd-funded series, and his involvement with the Christian prayer app Hallow, which Stefani has also promoted. Some fans took issue with Stefani’s post, accusing her of aligning with right-wing figures.
“Gwen is in her Trump era,” one commenter wrote in response. Another expressed disappointment, stating, “I love you but I hope you know that your faith and Tucker Carlson’s platform full of hate are completely opposite of each other.”
Some reactions went further, accusing Stefani of changing over the years. One user wrote, “Gwen Stefani went from everyone’s punk girlfriend to marrying a country artist, have a lot of plastic surgery, get more money, vote Trump. This is what selling out looks like.” Others suggested she had become an “alt-right Christian Nationalist.”
Stefani faced similar criticism in December when she promoted Hallow, a Catholic prayer and meditation app that offers a $69.99 per year premium subscription. Among those questioning her endorsement was Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause, who criticized the concept of a “pay to pray” app.
However, many supporters defended Stefani, pointing out that she has always been open about her faith. Some argued that critics were overreacting, particularly since her post focused on Roumie rather than Carlson.
“Gwen, thank you for posting this and allowing the world to see how unhinged people have gotten over politics,” one X user wrote. Another added, “Some of you are so stupid. She wasn’t highlighting anyone except J Roumie. Did you even watch? He’s a Catholic and Gwen is a Catholic and it’s the beginning of Lent.”
Stefani was raised Catholic and has regularly attended mass, even while on tour. Reports suggest she waited for the Vatican to annul her previous marriage to Gavin Rossdale before marrying country singer Blake Shelton.
Despite ongoing speculation, Stefani has never publicly stated her political beliefs. In a 2021 interview with Paper magazine, she said she believes people should have the right to keep their politics private. She added that she is “not a political science major” and doesn’t think Americans want to hear the political views of a pop star.

Stefani is not the first musician to spark controversy over perceived political affiliations. Last year, Nicole Scherzinger faced criticism after appearing to show support for the Make America Great Again movement. She had asked comedian Russell Brand where she could find a “Make Jesus Great Again” hat and liked a post by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. promising to restore free speech, end wars, and protect children’s health.
Scherzinger later responded with a statement clarifying that she had not intended to make a political statement and expressed sympathy for marginalized communities. However, she did not directly address whether she had voted for Trump.
The former Pussycat Dolls singer has since received widespread acclaim for her performance as Norma Desmond in the Broadway revival of Sunset Boulevard. While she has been considered a frontrunner for a Tony Award, some progressive commentators have suggested that her apparent political leanings should disqualify her from winning.
