A viral video showing boaters dumping what appeared to be trash into the waters of Boca Inlet has sparked outrage and prompted an official investigation. The incident occurred as boaters were leaving the Boca Bash, an annual gathering in Boca Raton, Florida.

The video, which spread rapidly online, captures several individuals aboard a boat named “Halcyon” throwing contents from trash cans into the water. This has led to widespread condemnation and a call for accountability. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is actively investigating the matter, and reports indicate that most of those involved were seen at the police station on Monday evening, according to BocaNewsNow.

This video was captured using a couple of very popular YouTube channels that monitor some of the most popular inlets in Florida. One of them is Wavy Boats and they also have a huge local following.

Currently, it is unclear what exactly was being dumped. Authorities are working to determine the contents of the discarded material. If it is found to be vegetation, such as lettuce intended for manatees, the incident may not lead to criminal charges. However, if the dumped material is confirmed to be trash, the individuals could face significant legal consequences, including charges for the boat owner.

The Boca Bash is a well-known event that draws a large crowd to Lake Boca and Boca Raton every last Sunday of April. This year, the event attracted over 10,000 attendees, many of whom displayed flags from various political affiliations on their boats. Despite not being officially organized by local authorities, the event has often led to increased law enforcement activity due to incidents involving drug use and boating under the influence.

Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer emphasized the importance of safety during such events, stating, “First and foremost, I want people to be safe. There are plenty of ways to stay safe and still enjoy the water.”

The response to the littering incident was swift. Boca Bash officials expressed their disappointment, emphasizing that such actions tarnish the event’s reputation. They highlighted that the motive behind the littering might have been due to paranoia about being stopped by authorities, stressing the importance of responsible boating and adherence to safety guidelines.

Public reaction to the video has been strong, with many calling for stern punishments for those involved, including lengthy community service hours and substantial fines. Florida’s litter law could see those found guilty of illegally dumping more than 15 pounds of waste into waterways facing up to one year in prison, a $1,000 fine, and probation.
