In a shocking incident that unfolded on a crowded Florida beach over the holiday weekend, a 26-year-old Orlando woman, Sarah Ramsammy, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after allegedly driving up to 50 mph on the shoreline of New Smyrna Beach. The incident, which could have had catastrophic consequences, involved Ramsammy’s vehicle nearly hitting a child.

Eyewitnesses and body camera footage from the responding deputies of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office revealed a harrowing scene. Ramsammy, seemingly oblivious to the potential danger she posed, was observed driving her vehicle on the crowded beach, where families had gathered to enjoy the holiday weekend. Despite warnings and restrictions, she recklessly maneuvered her SUV, ultimately driving it into the water.

When confronted by the deputies, Ramsammy appeared disoriented and unsure of what had occurred. She claimed to be attempting a turnaround, but the evidence suggested otherwise. Ramsammy was informed that she had driven in a restricted area, endangering the lives of beachgoers. It was at this point that the deputies, suspecting DUI, conducted a sobriety test. Ramsammy’s blood alcohol level was found to be .153, nearly twice the legal limit.

Authorities promptly arrested Ramsammy on charges of DUI, reckless driving, and driving in a restricted area. With a blood alcohol level far exceeding the legal limit, her arrest was warranted to ensure the safety of others and to uphold the law.

The incident at New Smyrna Beach serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior and adherence to regulations, particularly in areas where public safety is a concern. While vehicles are permitted in certain sections of the beach, strict enforcement and compliance are necessary to avoid such incidents. The actions of Ramsammy, driving at high speeds and endangering beachgoers, underscore the need for vigilance and stringent consequences for those who choose to ignore the rules.
