In a dramatic escalation of tensions, House and Senate Democrats have demanded answers from the Department of Education regarding potential executive orders that could significantly weaken—or even dismantle—the agency. Their concerns were outlined in a forceful letter sent Thursday to the acting Education Secretary, freaking out that DOGE is going to audit the agency.
Already in a panic that USAID has revealed all kinds of wasteful spending on what appears to be a lot of left-wing organizations, Democrats seem to worry about what will come out next.
The lawmakers specifically reference a troubling instance in which Department of Education employees were reportedly placed on administrative leave for attending a diversity training session—a training that was originally sanctioned and encouraged by the Trump administration in 2019. This action, they argue, represents a direct contradiction of previous policy and an attempt to silence or sideline federal employees for engaging in legally approved professional development.
“We will not stand by and allow the impact that dismantling the Department of Education would have on the nation’s students,” the letter reads, reflecting a clear commitment to resisting any efforts to weaken the department’s authority.
The letter was signed by a group of high-ranking Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.), Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), and Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.). These officials have given the Department of Education until Friday to provide key information, including a list of individuals granted access to sensitive data since January 20, details on employee dismissals or administrative leaves, and confirmation that no funding awards have been terminated or paused under the current administration.
Following the letter on February 7, Dem lawmakers tried to storm the Department of Education.
JUST IN: Democrats attempt to storm the Department of Education, get blocked by a “guard” who wouldn’t let them in.
The move comes as President Trump is considering abolishing the department.
It’s unclear who the man is.
