In a press conference on Friday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and national security spokesman John Kirby faced a barrage of questions from reporters regarding a bombshell WhatsApp message that allegedly implicates President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, in a questionable business deal with a Chinese businessman. However, both representatives refused to provide any substantial answers, frustrating journalists seeking clarity on the matter.
When asked about the WhatsApp message and whether it contradicts President Biden’s previous statements denying involvement in Hunter’s business dealings, Kirby tersely responded, “I’m not going to comment further on this.” He promptly left the press conference, leaving reporters puzzled and unsatisfied with the lack of transparency.
Jean-Pierre took the podium next but followed the same evasive approach. Despite persistent questioning, she repeatedly declined to address the issue, claiming it was a “family discussion” and directing reporters to seek answers from the White House counsel’s office and the Department of Justice. Her dismissive response irked journalists, who protested against her refusal to engage with their legitimate queries. Jean-Pierre retorted, “It’s not up to you how I answer the question,” further fueling frustration among the press corps.
The controversy stemmed from the release of a WhatsApp message obtained by IRS investigators as part of their probe into Hunter Biden’s overseas business activities. House Ways and Means Committee chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) made the message public, revealing a July 2017 exchange between Hunter and Henry Zhao, CEO of Harvest Fund Management, a Chinese firm.
According to the testimony of IRS Criminal Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley, Hunter’s message to Zhao indicated a coercive conversation between the Bidens and the Chinese businessman, suggesting possible involvement by President Biden. Hunter’s attorney did not dispute the authenticity of the WhatsApp message but insinuated that it could be misleading or potentially fabricated.
Chairman Smith also released whistleblower testimonies from IRS agents accusing the Department of Justice of interfering in the investigation and suppressing evidence related to Hunter Biden’s alleged wrongdoings. These revelations further intensified calls for transparency and accountability within the Biden administration.
As the controversy surrounding Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings deepens, conservative lawmakers and media outlets are raising concerns about potential corruption and the Biden family’s alleged inappropriate influence.
