Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest brewer, is facing backlash from both sides of the political spectrum after teaming up with transgender-identifying social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney to advertise its Bud Light products.

The brewing corporation’s partnership with Mulvaney has sparked outrage among LGBT activists, conservative critics, and those in between. As a result, several gay bars in Chicago are now boycotting all Anheuser-Busch InBev products over the company’s alleged “anti-transgender actions and statements.”

2Bears Tavern Group, which owns four gay bars in Chicago, made the announcement in an Instagram post-Friday, saying, “All 2Bears Tavern Group bars are discontinuing Anheuser-Busch InBev products as a result of the brewer’s anti-transgender actions and statements.”

The owner of a Florida seafood restaurant chain is similarly removing Bud Light products from his establishments over Anheuser-Busch’s actions, calling the company’s actions “disgusting” and claiming that Anheuser-Busch “knew EXACTLY what you were doing when you launched this campaign.”

The controversy has been fueled by Mulvaney’s claims that he’s a “girl”, despite being biologically male. LGBT activists are unhappy with the brewing corporation’s response, which they view as “caving” to conservatives.

In response to the growing backlash, Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth put out a statement last month saying that the corporation “never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people,” adding, “We are in the business of bringing people together over a beer.”

However, the statement contained no mea culpa and no mention of Mulvaney or the radical transgender ideology he espouses, further upsetting conservative critics and LGBT activists alike.

It remains to be seen whether or not Anheuser-Busch InBev will be able to weather the storm of criticism and negative publicity surrounding their partnership with Mulvaney. In the meantime, the brewing corporation is facing boycotts from both conservative and LGBT establishments.
