MSNBC host Joy Reid has stirred controversy by implying that Donald Trump bears some responsibility for the recent assassination attempt against him. During a broadcast with Rachel Maddow covering the Republican National Convention, Reid suggested that Trump was facing the “consequences” of promoting violence.
“The idea of political violence that we’ve been nursing really… is so dangerous,” Reid remarked. “It’s so dangerous that you cannot avoid the consequences of it, even if you’re one of the people promoting it.” She emphasized that Trump should not be allowed to “rewrite himself as a victim” and cited voter intimidation incidents in Arizona as examples of the political violence she claims Republicans have been fostering.
“I think about the people who tried to vote in Arizona when men with long guns were standing outside of the polling places to send them a message,” she explained. “If you don’t vote the right way, I’m here with this gun.”
Reid recalled a similar experience at the 2016 RNC when armed men “paced” near her booth to intimidate her. Her comments have sparked outrage on social media, with one X user labeling her “the most vile woman in America,” and another, Brandon Tatum, accusing her of “gaslighting.”
MSNBC has taken steps to prevent its liberal stars from making potentially embarrassing comments following the shooting at the Trump rally. The network preempted its signature morning show, “Morning Joe,” on Monday, opting instead for breaking news coverage of the assassination attempt. This decision was reportedly made to avoid any inappropriate comments from guests that could be used against the network.
However, MSNBC denied CNN’s report that this was the reason for the preemption. “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski returned to air on Tuesday, expressing their frustration with network executives for the unexpected move. Scarborough stated that next time they would cover breaking news themselves or the network could find “somebody else.”
Gaslighting at its finest. This is how insane these people are.
