Kelly Osbourne recently took to social media to share her frustration with celebrities who appear to be using the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles as a way to gain attention. Though she did not name specific individuals, Osbourne’s remarks have sparked widespread discussion and speculation about the behavior of public figures in the wake of such tragedies.

In a video originally posted on her Instagram account but later deleted, the 40-year-old television personality voiced her concerns about what she sees as performative activism. The video, which was reposted to TikTok on a Kelly Osbourne fan account, shows her questioning the motivations of celebrities who publicize their involvement in relief efforts.

“Ok, I have a question. Is it me being my normal overthinking, cynical self, or is it really disturbing to see all of these celebrities using other people’s pain and suffering as a photo op to say, ‘Look, I’m helping, I’m doing this, I’m doing that,’” Osbourne said in the video. She went on to add, “I don’t believe you help because you get attention for helping, I believe you help because you want to. I’m so confused. I think it’s so wrong. No one asked you to come out and give hugs, go home.”

Although Osbourne did not identify specific celebrities in her remarks, online commenters speculated that her comments may have been aimed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were recently photographed at the Pasadena Convention Center, which has been serving as a shelter for evacuees of the wildfires. Markle was seen wearing a mask and handing out food while embracing victims, a gesture that has received both praise and criticism. Some critics claim the royal couple brought a film crew to document their involvement, sparking accusations of using the tragedy for personal publicity.

One TikTok user commented, “Well said. Meghan and Harry brought a full film crew with them for [their] own benefit… PR stunt.” Another echoed, “So you mean Meghan and Harry? Yes, yes, yes.”

The controversy gained further traction when actress Justine Bateman, best known for her role on Family Ties, criticized Harry and Markle on social media. Bateman, who resides in the Hollywood Hills near the affected wildfire areas, described the couple as “disaster tourists” in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter). She wrote, “Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved. They are ‘touring the damage’? Are they politicians now? They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists.”

The royal pair, who live in Montecito, roughly 80 miles from the Palisades and Hurst fires, have reportedly been “offended” by Bateman’s comments, according to an unnamed source cited by Page Six. However, they have not issued any official statement in response to the criticism.

Osbourne’s remarks and the subsequent backlash against high-profile figures have reignited debates about celebrity involvement in humanitarian efforts. While some argue that any contribution to relief efforts is positive, others believe that the intention behind such actions matters, particularly if the gestures are perceived as self-serving. The ongoing wildfires in California have left thousands displaced, drawing both public sympathy and scrutiny over how aid is provided—and by whom.
