A fall day at a Wisconsin apple orchard took a tragic turn when a fun-filled field trip ended with a terrifying tractor rollover, injuring at least 17 people, including children. The incident occurred at the Bushel and a Peck Apple Orchard in Lafayette, Wisconsin, where two hay wagons were being pulled by a tractor overturned during what was supposed to be a routine wagon ride.

Chippewa Fire District Deputy Chief Corey Jeffers shared grim details at a Wednesday press conference, noting that three individuals were transported with life-threatening injuries, five sustained serious injuries, and nine others were taken to hospitals. One patient was airlifted for emergency care, while others were driven in personal vehicles.

Rep. Tom Tiffany stated, “My thoughts go out to everyone involved in the tragic tractor incident at Bushel and a Peck Apple Orchard in western Wisconsin.”

“I am sending my prayers to all the families and individuals injured during this challenging time,” he continued.

The accident happened when the wagon lost control while going downhill, abruptly overturning when an attempt to stop it failed. Chippewa County Sheriff Travis Hakes, who was on the scene, emphasized the importance of safety and reunification efforts, stating, “It is imperative that we focus on the safety of the victims, as well as reuniting children with their parents.” Hakes also described assisting in calming the children after the harrowing experience.

The specifics of the injuries have not yet been shared, but with the number of children and families involved, the community is undoubtedly shaken.
