In a recent incident near Eagle Pass, Texas, a group of migrants who had entered the United States illegally attempted to claim a small island by planting a foreign flag resembling the Colombian flag. The island, located near the Rio Grande, has been a focal point for migrants seeking entry into the U.S. and applying for asylum.

This particular island had been designated by the Texas General Land Office but came under the control of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) following the expiration of Title 42, a public health order implemented during the Trump administration, in May. According to DPS Lt. Chris Olivarez, a Tactical Marine Unit swiftly removed the foreign flag, which bore the inscription “Robenz.”

U.S. Representative Troy Nehls, a Republican from Texas, commented on the incident, stating, “Don’t mess with Texas.” Nehls’ remark reflects the sentiment of many in the state who view border security as a top priority.

Texas has been witnessing a significant surge in the number of migrants, with a notable portion hailing from Venezuela. In recent weeks, thousands of predominantly adult illegal immigrants from Venezuela congregated under a nearby bridge in Eagle Pass. These individuals were awaiting processing by Border Patrol agents, with the hope of eventually being released into the United States.

The incident involving the foreign flag serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by authorities along the U.S.-Mexico border. It underscores the complexities of border security and immigration enforcement in a region that continues to experience high levels of unauthorized border crossings.

As the situation unfolds, Texas officials and law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain border security while addressing the humanitarian aspects of immigration. The issue of illegal immigration and border control continues to be a topic of concern and debate, both at the state and federal levels, with various stakeholders seeking solutions to ensure the integrity of the nation’s borders.
