Tourists visiting Yellowstone National Park on October 6 were left stunned after witnessing a man walk straight toward a wild wolf pack in what authorities are calling a highly dangerous and reckless act. The moment was captured on video and has since gone viral, with social media users reacting with disbelief and concern.
The video, originally posted to a Facebook group called “Yellowstone National Park: Invasion of the Idiots,” shows a man in a white scarf walking alone across an open field toward a group of five black wolves. The wolves appear to be gathered together as the man approaches, ignoring repeated shouts and warnings from other park visitors watching from a nearby ridgeline.
“This could end very badly for that guy,” one person says in the background of the video.
The man can be seen waving an object in his hand as he gets within a few feet of the animals. Witnesses say it appeared to be bear spray, though this has not been confirmed by park officials. The man shouted at the wolves and continued moving closer even after the pack appeared to become agitated and began circling him.
At one point in the video, the wolves charge toward him. He steps back but then continues forward again, spraying the object toward the animals. Tourists off-camera begin yelling louder, trying to get the man to retreat.
“Hey! Hey! Get the hell away from them! Back up!” one person yells, as others join in.
Despite the warnings, the man does not turn back. Instead, the video shows him backing away as the wolves close in, with all of them disappearing together down into a ravine. The video ends there, and it’s unclear what happened afterward. No serious injuries or fatalities have been reported, but officials are still investigating.
Yellowstone National Park has long warned visitors to stay at least 100 yards away from wolves and bears at all times. Park regulations are strict about wildlife encounters, and anyone caught violating these rules can face fines, bans from the park, or even criminal charges depending on the circumstances.
As of now, the man has not been publicly identified, and it is unclear whether he will face any penalties. Officials from the National Park Service have acknowledged they are reviewing the video and working to determine if any laws were broken.
