Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas recently sparked controversy with his comments about the LGBT community, expressing his concerns about what he perceives as an unfair playbook used for canceling individuals. In an interview with Vlad TV, Arenas criticized the lack of open dialogue and clear guidelines, arguing that this lack of transparency results in unwarranted backlash.
Arenas claimed that the LGBT community possesses an exclusive playbook, unknown to the general public, which they use to judge and cancel others. He argued that without access to this playbook, individuals are left unaware of what is deemed acceptable or inappropriate, leading to inadvertent mistakes that invite harsh consequences.
“The LGBT, I think it’s the most unfair group walking the planet right now,” Arenas told the host. “They have a playbook that only they’re playing by. No one else gets to see this playbook, but we’re being judged by everything that’s in this playbook.”
According to Arenas, the use of certain words and phrases, such as pronouns, is particularly challenging due to ever-changing guidelines. He expressed frustration that individuals are expected to navigate this evolving landscape without a comprehensive resource to consult. He insisted that the absence of a readily available dictionary of updates makes it difficult for people to stay up to date, further exacerbating the risk of unintentional offense.
“Just words, phrases. Like he, she, it, they. … How do we know? You’re making it up as we go,” Arenas continued. “There’s not like there’s this f***ing dictionary of updates, and we can sit there, click it and say, ‘All right I can’t say — Oh, they took this out. They added this in.’ We’re just learning, right? That’s really unfair that you can cancel somebody on a playbook that only you have.”
The former NBA star cautioned against engaging in arguments with members of the LGBT community, referring to it as “f***ing suicide.” He claimed that individuals from the LGBT community possess an extensive vocabulary that they can deploy against others, while those outside the community are often subjected to stringent rules and are deemed offensive for their responses. Arenas argued that this power dynamic leaves little room for constructive dialogue or understanding.
The former NBA star said forget getting into an argument “with someone from the LGB” community, calling it “f***ing suicide.” He believes it’s because “they have the whole dictionary to use against you” and “can say whatever the f*** they want.”
Arenas acknowledged the discomfort surrounding his comments, as discussing such topics often invites backlash from those who may view his perspective as insensitive. Nevertheless, he stood by his assertions, highlighting the need for an open conversation about the perceived imbalances in the current discourse.
“Even us talking about it makes us feel uncomfortable because we know there’s gonna f***ing be backlash, but it’s truth,” he added. “You can use whatever vocabulary against me. I get to go back, now it becomes, you get to use, ‘LGB, can’t do that.’”
