Sunday night was a special night for the Florida Atlantic Owls, as they defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights 78-70 in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. An exciting moment in the postgame interview was shared between reporter Jamie Erdahl and Florida Atlantic’s Johnell Davis when Davis accidentally dropped the S-word in the postgame interview.
The 6-foot-4 guard, Davis, had a huge game, scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. Following the game, he told Erdahl, “I’ve been trying to prove this s–t since day one.” Erdahl then helped Davis shake off the flub, saying, “That’s alright, it happens to all of us. We’re on truTV, man.”

The moment quickly went viral, with many praising Erdahl’s professionalism in helping Davis move past the mistake. ESPN’s Michele Steele tweeted, “Jamie is a pro’s pro,” and Adam Bowen of “The Bo Money Show” replied, “Agreed! Honest mistake by JD and they both handled it perfectly.” Erdahl took to Twitter to address the moment, saying “No disrespect to @TruTV – EVER!” and adding, “this felt like a scene from @truTVjokers?!”
The victory for the ninth-seeded Owls was a dream come true for Davis, who said, “My team just believed in me. It’s just a dream come true.” Florida Atlantic now heads to New York City, where the team will face No. 4 seed Tennessee on Thursday in the Sweet 16 at Madison Square Garden.
