Due to the economy, prices are squeezing customers who are doing their best to survive; however, a significant change to Sam’s Club members has customers upset.
Starting from August 19, Plus members will only be eligible for free shipping if their order is $50 or more. Sam’s Club made this announcement through an email in mid-June. If you don’t reach that $50 minimum with qualifying items in your cart, you will be charged an $8 flat rate fee. It’s crucial to mention that there are some exceptions in certain categories, which could lead to variable shipping charges.
“I’m NOT paying $8 for shipping that used to be free (or should I say was ‘included’ in my $100/year membership!!),” Terese Helberg wrote on Facebook. “Will likely cancel and have to rely on Costco for all the items I used to love getting from Sam’s Club!”
Sam’s Club was quick to respond. They explained that by setting a cart minimum, they aim to improve access to different shopping methods for their members. They believe this adjustment will simplify the process for you to purchase the products you want, when you want, and how you want.
Actually, they are trying to make money off shipping or get cart or get their gross sales up because people will add more to their cart.

However, not everyone was convinced by this explanation. Some users even suggested that a class action lawsuit might be forthcoming, while others threatened to switch to Costco or BJ’s due to the new policy.
Sam’s Club acknowledged these frustrations. In one instance, they responded to a disabled user who relies on Sam’s shipping for her online-only items, offering assistance in understanding the new policy.
Plus member, will still be entitled to free same-day delivery on qualifying orders if you meet the $50 minimum. Other perks include free curbside pickup, early shopping, 2% Sam’s Cash through their rewards program, prescription savings, optical savings, and Plus Early Access, which allows you to shop two hours early during big savings events.
Currently, Sam’s Club is offering a $50 discount on Plus membership, reducing its cost to $60, but this deal ends this Sunday.
