The superintendent of an Oklahoma school district has called for the immediate termination of Dr. Shane Murnan, a recently hired elementary school principal who performs as a drag queen and has faced child pornography charges in the past.

Dr. Shane Murnan, 52, who performs as Shantel Mandalay at a venue known as the Boom, has been named the new principal of John Glenn Elementary, as reported by Fox News Digital. Murnan also participates in drag queen story hours with children.

Ryan Walters, the school district’s superintendent, has criticized Murnan’s appointment, alleging that it is an attempt to indoctrinate children with what he views as harmful Marxist ideology and a means of pitting children against their parents. Walters stated, “I hear from parents every day that are concerned with this woke left-wing indoctrination of schools, this gender theory that continues to be thrust upon our kids. It’s completely inappropriate.”

Regarding Murnan’s past child pornography charges, Fox News Digital reported that the charge was dropped more than 20 years ago during a preliminary hearing when it could not be confirmed if the photos on his electronic devices depicted minors. Western Heights Public Schools acknowledges Murnan’s past charges but highlights his “outstanding reputation” in the education field, citing his educational qualifications.

In a statement, the school district said, “He holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Masters of Education in Educational Administration, and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration. We welcome Dr. Murnan to Western Heights, and we are very excited about his vision for John Glenn and the community.”

In the world of drag queen performance, Murnan has earned titles such as Miss Gay Oklahoma America and Miss Gay Oklahoma USA. He has also participated in events like drag queen story hours, including one at the Metropolitan Library System.

Superintendent Walters expressed concerns about what he termed “radical gender theory” and emphasized that many parents do not want their children exposed to it in any capacity in schools. He stated, “This woke war on our kids has to stop. We will not allow it in Oklahoma. This is the liberal insanity that every parent wants out of the classroom.”

This controversy in Oklahoma is not the first instance of drag queens becoming involved in school-related activities. In New Jersey, a drag queen performer who is also a school board member has opposed laws restricting drag queen performances for children, considering them a “disservice to young minds,” as reported by Breitbart News. Over 12 states have laws restricting public drag queen performances.
