Shoplifting Spree Linked to Organized Ring

The city of Chicago, a notorious sanctuary city, is once again making headlines for all the wrong reasons. This time, it’s not the rampant gun violence or political corruption that is causing chaos, but rather a group of migrants who seem to have brought their crime spree with them from the southern border.

According to police, a group of newly arrived migrants, who may be part of a larger criminal organization, have been wreaking havoc in the quiet suburb of Oak Brook. These migrants, many of whom have come from Chicago, have been arrested for a string of retail thefts and burglaries, with a particular focus on the local Macy’s.

In just the past few months, a staggering 47 migrants have been arrested for these crimes. And it’s not just petty theft either. In one incident, a migrant tried on a $395 coat and simply walked out of the store without paying. When police searched his car, they found an I.C.E. electronic monitoring device that he had cut off, as well as rolls of tin foil commonly used to bypass theft detection devices.

The police chief of Oak Brook, Brian Strockis, has stated that these retail crimes are likely just the tip of the iceberg. He believes that these migrants are part of a larger criminal enterprise, and authorities are working closely with federal partners to investigate and address the problem.

What’s even more alarming is that it seems these migrants are being recruited and paid to commit these crimes. According to Deputy Chief of Police Reid Foltyniewicz, migrants are being approached in Chicago and offered money to steal from stores in Oak Brook.

But these thefts are not just a local issue. Chicago’s sanctuary city policies have allowed an influx of over 34,000 migrants since 2022, and it seems they are bringing their criminal tendencies with them. Mayor Brandon Johnson, a strong supporter of sanctuary city policies, recently pleaded for federal help in tackling the crisis at the border. It seems even he is realizing the consequences of his city’s reckless policies.

The Oak Brook Police Department has been working tirelessly to crack down on these retail thefts, but they are just one part of a larger statewide retail crime task force. In fact, in just the first two weeks of 2024, 21 people have been charged with stealing merchandise from stores in DuPage County.

Governor Hochul of New York, facing a similar retail theft crisis, has decided to allocate $40 million to fight the issue in her state. It seems the consequences of sanctuary city policies are being felt far beyond the city limits of Chicago.

It’s clear that these migrants, who have been welcomed with open arms by the sanctuary city of Chicago, are taking advantage of the system and causing chaos in peaceful communities like Oak Brook. It’s time for city leaders to put the safety and security of their citizens first, and stop turning a blind eye to the consequences of their reckless policies.
