In a bizarre and ominous twist, a group of hovering lights — deemed “UFOs” by stunned locals — was spotted in the sky over Spain right before devastating floods tore through the Valencia region. The unsettling footage, captured just moments before the disaster struck, shows a cluster of white lights dancing across the sky next to a rare double rainbow. The juxtaposition of the stunning rainbow and the mysterious lights was striking and took on an eerie quality in hindsight, as these otherworldly specks of light seemed to silently “watch” from above.

As the video zooms in, the bright orbs dart through the clouds, prompting the stunned cameraman to exclaim, “What the hell are they?” along with a series of other colorful expressions. Even a child in the background added to the astonishment with a reaction that could only be described as disbelief. For some, the appearance of these unidentified lights became a grim omen, with speculation running wild that they were extraterrestrial “watchers” foretelling or observing the impending flood.

Social media lit up with reactions, ranging from dark humor to full-on alien theories. One comment joked, “They are aliens from Galaxy 5383837, and we are all going to die.” Others suggested that these lights might be some kind of intergalactic “tourism” — as if cosmic sightseers were visiting Earth to witness natural disasters. Another commenter hinted that these kinds of lights are often spotted before tragic events, suggesting a pattern that “they are carrying out surveillance on us, analyzing how we react to tragedy.”

But not everyone was sold on the alien explanation. Some locals proposed more grounded theories, including that the lights were just a flock of birds reflecting city lights or possibly even drones. Rita, a local who observed similar phenomena in the past, suggested that seagulls might be responsible: “They shine in the darkness because they’re illuminated from below, especially on stormy nights.”

Despite the theories, no definitive explanation has been offered for the lights. Meanwhile, the reality on the ground was far from science fiction. The torrential floods that followed the mysterious sighting have taken a harrowing toll. With at least 217 confirmed dead and nearly 90 people still missing, Spain is grappling with its deadliest flood in almost three decades. Entire towns were submerged, homes and streets buried under thick mud, and families left to face the tragedy that unfolded with shocking speed.

Amid the chaos, survivors shared accounts of their narrow escapes. Guillermo Serrano Pérez, 21, described how he and his parents abandoned their car and scrambled onto a bridge to escape the “tsunami” of water that engulfed their neighborhood. Stories like Guillermo’s have become tragically common, with many residents criticizing authorities for what they claim was a slow response. The Civil Protection Agency, for instance, only issued a formal flood alert at 8:15 PM, two hours after towns like Chiva were already inundated.

Now, as search-and-rescue operations continue, residents are left sifting through the wreckage and wondering what else could have been done. For some, the unusual lights above remain a strange mystery, a haunting footnote in a tragedy that has left Spain grieving and questioning.
