Former President Donald Trump launched a forceful response late Sunday night to CBS and its news program 60 Minutes, following recent segments that focused on his foreign policy legacy and ongoing political ambitions. In a series of posts on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump called for the network’s broadcast license to be revoked, alleging persistent bias and misrepresentation.
Trump’s statements came after the network aired two separate reports on 60 Minutes. The first was an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, conducted by correspondent Scott Pelley. Filmed at the site of a recent Russian missile strike that killed nine children, the interview featured Zelensky expressing strong condemnation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and offering an open invitation to Trump to visit Ukraine to witness the impact of the conflict firsthand.

The second report, by correspondent Jon Wertheim, explored the sentiment among residents of Greenland in response to reports that Trump, during his presidency, had explored the possibility of the United States acquiring the island. The report revisited the initial 2019 revelation that the Trump administration considered purchasing Greenland from Denmark and expanded on recent reports indicating that Trump’s team has developed proposals for direct payments to Greenlandic residents. These proposals include replacing Denmark’s $600 million annual subsidies with U.S. payments estimated at around $10,000 per person annually. Officials in Denmark and Greenland have repeatedly stated that the island is not for sale and have rejected any such annexation proposals.
Reacting to the segments, Trump stated that CBS was “out of control” and accused the network of operating as a political entity rather than a news outlet. “They are not a ‘News Show,’ but a dishonest Political Operative simply disguised as ‘News,’ and must be responsible for what they have done, and are doing,” Trump wrote. He further claimed that the war in Ukraine would not have occurred had the 2020 election not been, in his view, “rigged.”
In his posts, Trump also referenced an ongoing legal dispute with 60 Minutes, citing a $20 billion lawsuit over the editing of an interview conducted with Vice President Kamala Harris in the previous election cycle. The former president alleged that the broadcast had edited Harris’s responses to present her more favorably, particularly on topics including NATO, Israel-Palestine relations, and China. CBS has denied these claims, stating that standard editorial procedures were followed and that the interview accurately represented Harris’s statements.

Sources familiar with the matter have reported that attorneys for Trump and CBS’ parent company, Paramount Global, are currently engaged in settlement discussions. No formal resolutions have been announced.
Trump concluded his social media posts by calling on Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr to levy fines and take punitive action against CBS. The FCC has not commented publicly on the matter.
As of Monday, CBS had not issued a formal response to Trump’s remarks or the demands related to its broadcasting license. The developments come amid continued attention to Trump’s political activities as he remains a central figure in national discussions leading up to the 2024 presidential election.
