The NFL’s Tom Brady and Peyton Manning rivalry has lasted for many years. The two quarterbacks fought back and forth for records and achievements as well as bragging rights from 2001 to 2016.
However, when Manning retired in 2016, Brady put all the arguments to bed. Brady is known as the greatest quarterback of all time with Manning becoming a distant second. Although the rivalry is settled, it doesn’t mean Brady still isn’t reaching for the highest achievement he can get- which means putting another nail in the coffin of Mannings’ standings as he has shown in Week 9 of the 2022 season when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB broke one of Manning’s last standing records.
Brady already had higher standings than Manning with his six Super Bowl wins to Manning’s two. While Brady continued to play the next six-plus seasons, he took that time to get the better of Manning in passing yards (86,787 for Brady/71,940 for Manning), completions (7.487/6,125), passing touchdowns (633/539), wins (246/186), and every other statistic he could break.
One of the last remaining tussles statistic-wise was for game-winning drives and fourth-quarter comebacks. The pair were tied at 54 game-winning drives, and Manning was one fourth-quarter comeback ahead of Brady at 43 to 42.
That all changed during the Buccaneers’ Week 9 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Buccaneers were down 13 to 6 as they headed into the fourth quarter. Brady led his team to 10 unanswered points, leading up to a one-yard touchdown by Cade Otton with nine seconds to go for the win.
That gave Brady the 55 game-winning drives to get the best of Manning and 43 fourth-quarter comebacks to tie his rival.
Tom Brady and Peyton Manning may not have battled it out on the NFL field for more than half a decade, but Brady is still getting the best of his rival all these years later.
