A 25-year-old woman from North Carolina has filed a lawsuit against her medical team, alleging that she was rushed into transgender care for profit without receiving adequate therapy. Prisha Mosley claims that she was battling mental health problems and confusion when clinicians recommended cross-sex hormones and double breast removal after brief consultations, some lasting only minutes.

In a 53-page complaint filed at the Superior Court in Gaston County, Mosley accuses her doctors of lying about the effects of testosterone, claiming they told her it would solve her problems and even lead to the growth of male genitalia. She has since decided to “detransition” and live as a woman again, seeking financial damages for the irreversible scars left by the treatments, which include a deep voice, body and facial hair, pain in her neck and shoulders, a damaged vagina, and potential infertility.

This case is part of a growing trend of detransitioners taking legal action against their doctors, sparking heated debates in the United States about transgender rights and medical procedures, particularly concerning minors. The defendants in the lawsuit include plastic surgeon Eric Emerson and Piedmont Plastic Surgery and Dermatology, where he worked. Additionally, Brie Klein-Fowler and Family Solutions, Shana Gordon and Tree of Life Counseling, and Dr. Martha Perry and Moses Cone Medical Services are also named in the lawsuit.

The complaint levels various charges against the defendants, including fraud, civil conspiracy, medical malpractice, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and unfair and deceptive trade practices. The lawsuit alleges that the medical professionals intentionally withheld critical information from Mosley about the potential long-term health consequences and permanent damage caused by these treatments. They are also accused of failing to inform her about alternative treatments for her psychological problems.

Mosley’s journey into transgenderism began when she discovered it online and started socially transitioning to being a boy at the age of 15. She believed this change would help her cope with anorexia, anxiety, depression, and the trauma of a sexual assault she endured at 14. Her parents objected to the medical decisions but claim to have been sidelined by the medical team.

Ultimately, Mosley decided to detransition after realizing that therapy could address her underlying issues. She is now seeking financial support for laser hair removal and breast reconstruction surgery to help her live as a woman again.

The case has drawn attention to concerns about the rise of teenage girls seeking sex reassignment and the potential link between puberty blockers and negative health outcomes such as weaker bones and osteoporosis.

In her own words, Mosley stated that she filed the lawsuit to hold those responsible accountable and prevent similar tragedies from happening to others. As the legal proceedings unfold, the case may play a pivotal role in shaping discussions around transgender care and medical practices, particularly involving minors, in the United States.
