Texas Senator Ted Cruz and his family are requesting privacy as their 14-year-old daughter has been hospitalized with self-inflicted knife wounds.
Representatives for Senator Cruz said in a statement last night, “This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is OK. There were no serious injuries.”
The representaive went on to say, “The family requests that the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.”
The Houston Police department received a call to the family’s home shortly before 8pm on Tuesday night.
The police responded to Cruz’s home around 8 PM after receiving a report of a 14-year-old with self-inflicted stab wounds to their arm. The Senator, his wife Heidi and their 2 daughters, ages 11 and 14, live in the house, although it is unclear who was home at the time of the incident.
Regardless of one’s political stance, prayers should be said for the Cruz family. Billy Baldwin said it well when he posted on Twitter,
I don’t know the name of Ted Cruz’s daughter nor would I say it.
The internet, social media, bullying, COVID and the mental health aspects of all of it have made being a teenager tougher than ever.
