Actor Ben Savage, who is best known for his role as Cory Matthews on “Boy Meets World”, has announced that he is running for Congress in California’s 30th Congressional District. Savage is running to succeed current Democratic Representative Adam Schiff, who is now running for Senate.

Savage made his announcement on his Instagram account, saying “I’m running for Congress because it’s time to restore faith in government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to our country’s most pressing issues.” He went on to say that he is a “proud Californian, union member and longtime resident of District 30 who comes from a family of unwavering service to our country and community.”

Savage went on to say, “And it’s time for new and passionate leaders who can help move our country forward. Leaders who want to see the government operating at maximum capacity, unhindered by political divisions and special interests.”

Savage has a long history in politics. He graduated from Stanford University in 2004 with a degree in political science and in 2003, he interned for Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter. In January of 2021, Savage filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run as a Democrat in the 30th District, which encompasses West Hollywood, Burbank, and parts of Pasadena.

Despite his filing, Savage’s representative said that he was still focused on his upcoming wedding. Savage announced his engagement to Tessa Angermeier in January of 2023.

Savage is not a stranger to running for office. In 2022, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council. His campaign focused on community safety, housing, and homelessness.

The general election for California’s 30th Congressional District will be held on November 5, 2024. As of now, Savage is the only declared candidate for the seat, though that could change in the future.
