Renowned filmmaker Oliver Stone recently expressed remorse for casting his vote for President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, citing concerns over the current administration’s handling of the Ukraine crisis and its potential implications on global stability. Stone, a two-time Oscar-winning director, shared his candid thoughts during an interview with actor Russell Brand.

In the interview, Stone expressed his disappointment with the Biden administration’s approach to the conflict in Ukraine, warning that it could lead to a catastrophic World War III scenario. He likened the situation to the prelude of World War I, emphasizing the importance of avoiding escalation through diplomatic means.

The filmmaker confessed that he had voted for Biden with the expectation that the president’s age would bring a more tempered and cautious approach to international relations. However, Stone voiced his concerns, claiming that he has not seen the desired level of restraint and discernment in Biden’s actions. He went as far as suggesting that Biden might not be entirely in charge of his own administration.

Stone highlighted the irony of his regrets, considering his previous opposition to former President Donald Trump. Despite his criticisms of Trump, the filmmaker called out Twitter’s decision to ban the former president, labeling it as “shocking.” He also expressed concern over the growing trend of censorship in the country, which he attributed to social media companies acting at the behest of the Biden administration.

The director’s apprehensions come amid President Biden’s commitment to providing ongoing military aid to Ukraine, with the assistance reaching a staggering $43 billion. However, Biden’s decision to send cluster bombs raised eyebrows, as the controversial weapons are known to cause harm to civilians for an extended period. The president’s admission that the aid caused a shortage of ammunition for U.S. servicemembers further fueled criticism from Stone and others.

It’s worth noting that Oliver Stone has a history of engaging with Russian leadership, having interviewed Russian President Vladimir Putin for his docuseries “The Putin Interviews” on Showtime in 2017. This background lends weight to his concerns regarding the unfolding situation between Ukraine and Russia.

As the geopolitical tensions continue to simmer, Stone’s candid remarks add to the chorus of voices calling for careful and measured diplomacy in handling the Ukraine crisis. His regretful admission regarding his vote for President Biden serves as a reminder of the complexities and consequences of international relations in a rapidly changing global landscape.
