On Wednesday, Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia is introducing articles of impeachment against United States Attorney General Merrick Garland. Greene is accusing Garland of “facilitating the weaponization and politicization of the United States justice system against the American people.”

In the articles of impeachment, Greene outlines various scandals and controversies under Garland’s tenure as attorney general. This includes the FBI’s “targeting of parents” in response to a teacher’s union letter comparing them to “domestic terrorism”, as well as his refusal to prosecute “leftist extremists” who harassed and threatened Supreme Court Justices after the Dobbs decision.

Greene also claims that Garland has “completely weaponized the Department of ‘Injustice’” and “politicization of the DOJ has resulted in the persecution of the left’s political enemies, and a two-tiered justice system.” In the press release, she cites the FBI’s “unprecedented raid” on the home of former President Trump on August 8, 2022, as evidence of Garland’s alleged abuse of power.

Greene also previously filed articles of impeachment against Garland in 2022 after the raid on Mar-a-Lago. This follows her separate resolution to impeach FBI Director Christopher Wray. In the articles of impeachment, she claims that Wray has facilitated “the development of a Federal police force to intimidate, harass, and entrap American citizens that are deemed enemies of the Biden regime.”

In response to the articles of impeachment, a spokesperson for the Department of Justice said that Garland is “focused on upholding the rule of law and protecting the American people from any and all threats to our safety and security.” They also said that Garland will not be distracted by “political theater” and will continue to do his job.

Greene’s articles of impeachment against Attorney General Merrick Garland are a sign of growing tensions between the Biden administration and the Republican party. As Greene continues to make her accusations against Garland, it remains to be seen how this will play out in the weeks and months to come.
