Disneyland has announced the launch of a new Pride Nite event, which could be in response to the recent battle between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the entertainment giant. The event, which is priced at $139 a ticket, was announced on Twitter shortly after DeSantis threatened to build a state prison next to Walt Disney World and Reedy Creek.

The battle began last year when Disney’s former CEO Bob Chapek criticized Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill, commonly referred to as the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law. The law prohibits instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity for children in Florida schools through third grade. This prompted a response from DeSantis, who dissolved the state’s special tax district.

In what seems to be a “doubling down” move, Disney has decided to launch a Pride Nite event. The event, which will be held in June, is open to all members of the LGBT community and their allies and will include a performance by a local LGBT artist, a selection of food and drinks, and a special Disney character meet and greet.

The announcement of this event has been met with a mix of reactions on social media. While some have praised the move as a stand against the Governor’s aggressive stance, others have expressed their disapproval of the event and accused Disney of being too politically correct.

Regardless of the opinion of the event, it is clear that Disney is taking a stand. It is possible that the Pride Nite event will be the first of many initiatives from the entertainment giant to show its support for the LGBT community and its opposition to the policies of the Governor. Whether that plays out in favor of the Disney company or not remains to be seen.
