Emhoff Addresses Michigan Crowd

Hello everyone. Well, it looks like Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff tried his best to fire up a crowd in Michigan, but boy, did that backfire spectacularly.

During a campaign stop at the Broadleaf Brewery in Kentwood, Emhoff attempted to rally the small audience with a patriotic “USA! USA!” chant, only to be met with the kind of lackluster enthusiasm that would make even the most seasoned politician cringe.

Let’s be honest; the chant was doomed from the start. Emhoff’s own effort was already pretty half-hearted, but the crowd’s response? Yikes. A few brave souls gave it a shot, but they quickly seemed to realize, “Wait a minute, we’re Democrats—we don’t do this sort of thing!” The moment was so awkward that Emhoff had to actually encourage the crowd by saying, “You can say it!” If you have to give people permission to cheer for their own country, it’s safe to say the moment is dead on arrival.

And let’s not forget Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, who was right there on the left side of the video, barely even moving her mouth. It was as if she was trying to avoid getting caught actually chanting something as audacious as “USA!”—because who wants to be seen being patriotic these days, right?

Of course, social media lit up with reactions to this debacle, with plenty of people poking fun at just how out of touch the whole thing was. Our friends over at Twitchy have compiled some of the best ones, and trust me, they’re worth checking out if you need a good laugh.

But it didn’t stop there. Emhoff went on to make the equally laughable claim that Kamala Harris is “pro-capitalism” and “pro-business.” This, just days after she floated the idea of Soviet-style price controls on groceries. Yes, you heard that right—price controls. Because nothing says “pro-capitalism” like meddling in the free market.

Emhoff’s speech was about as convincing as a used car salesman trying to sell you a lemon. He claimed Harris wants “everyone to succeed in this economy,” but actions speak louder than words. If she was really interested in economic success for all, she wouldn’t have cast the tie-breaking vote on the Inflation Reduction Act, which poured hundreds of billions into spending and helped push inflation through the roof. And she certainly wouldn’t have been cheerleading Bidenomics, which has done more to hurt than help Americans over the last few years.

Let’s face it: Emhoff might have delivered a decent speech at the DNC recently, but moments like this show just how out of touch the current Democratic leadership is with everyday Americans. Chanting “USA!” should be a no-brainer, a simple way to unite people across the political spectrum. But when even that falls flat, it says a lot about the crowd—and the campaign—that couldn’t muster the enthusiasm to cheer for the very country they’re hoping to lead.
