Elon Musk announced on Monday he will give one SpaceX share to every child in America next year, a move valued at over $10 billion.

On Monday, Elon Musk declared that each American child will receive one of his SpaceX shares next year. The tech billionaire made this promise early Monday morning on his social media platform, X. This single act represents a gift worth more than $10 billion to the next generation.

The post was viewed nearly 6 million times in just a few hours after it went live. Addressing his followers directly, Musk stated, “Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America.” He added that this gesture “will be the first of many.”

The Scale of the Gift

Musk did not explain exactly how he plans to distribute the shares to the public. However, the numbers behind this promise are staggering for any family to consider. The New York Post reported that there are 72 million children in the US under the age of 18. At Friday’s closing stock price of $146.03, this giveaway would cost roughly $10.5 billion in total value.

According to RedState, approximately 73 million United States residents are under the age of 18. SpaceX, the aerospace firm, became a public company in June during history’s largest initial public offering. It is now valued at approximately $2 trillion. This action provides children with a personal stake in one of the most prominent technology companies in America.

A Plan for the Public

Musk has been clear about his preference for how these assets should reach families. He recently criticized a plan by AI company Anthropic to set aside shares for a fund instead of people. While discussing the other firm’s strategy on Sunday, Musk said, “I recommend giving the shares directly to the public.” He stated plainly, “This is what I will be doing.”

This is not the first time SpaceX leadership has supported giving equity to young people. In July, Gwynne Shotwell, the President of SpaceX, revealed intentions to donate shares into investment accounts for low-income children. Current prices suggest that earlier pledge would be valued at nearly $300 million. Musk’s new plan takes that concept to an entirely different scale.

Connection to National Goals

The timing of this announcement aligns with a major economic initiative from the White House. The administration’s new Trump Accounts program aims to give American children investment accounts that grow over time. Eligible children born from January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2028, qualify for a one-time $1,000 federal contribution under this plan.

Musk’s private giveaway complements this government effort by offering a much larger potential return. He is concerned about our children’s future and wants to introduce families to the benefits of long-term ownership. The world’s first trillionaire did not detail the exact eligibility rules for his plan. But the premise remains extraordinary for parents across the country.
