Democrat Senator John Fetterman used to be revered as a secular saint among Pennsylvania’s progressives. But now, in a shocking twist of events, Fetterman has renounced his former title as “progressive” because of his stance on immigration and border security.
In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Fetterman revealed that he was no longer a progressive and that he believed there is a crisis at our southern border. He even went as far as to say that the influx of illegal aliens was threatening the “American dream.” This is quite a turnaround for the senator, who once campaigned for Bernie Sanders and proudly identified as a progressive.

But it seems that Fetterman’s change of heart has angered many on the Left, with some even questioning his commitment to Democratic values. However, Fetterman is not backing down from his new position and has challenged the Left’s views on both Israel and the border.
“I don’t understand why it’s controversial to say we need a secure border,” Fetterman stated in another interview with the New York Post. “That’s larger than the population of Pittsburgh…That’s [Pennsylvania’s] second largest city—and that’s just in one month.” He also called for federal support for Democratic-run cities like New York that have struggled with the influx of migrants.
But while Fetterman’s stance has gained praise from conservatives, it has also caused a rift with young liberals who are more sympathetic to Palestine than Israel. In fact, a recent poll showed that only 28% of voters aged 18-34 have a favorable view of Fetterman, with a whopping 45% having an unfavorable view.

It seems that Fetterman’s newfound dedication to border security has come at a cost of losing favor with his younger, progressive supporters. But the senator remains steadfast in his beliefs, stating, “Two things can be true at the same time—you can be very supportive of immigration, but we also need to have a secure border.”
Fetterman has received praise from his political opponents, including Donald Trump Jr., for speaking out on these issues. But with fewer and fewer progressive supporters, it remains to be seen how this new stance will affect Fetterman’s political future. As for now, it looks like the senator is no longer flying the progressive flag, but rather identifies as “just a regular Democrat.”
