A restaurant located near Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, is currently under scrutiny for instituting a controversial “bad parenting” fee for adults who bring poorly behaved children to their establishment. This decision has sparked a debate on social media platforms and raised questions about the ethics of such a policy.

The issue came to light when a customer shared an image of the restaurant’s menu on Reddit.com, which disclosed the existence of a fee for misbehaving children. The menu contained other notable items, such as a “Gratituity of 20%” added to parties over six people and a “Share charge” of $3. However, the controversial “bad parenting” fee is what garnered the most attention.

The menu’s fine print at the bottom indicated the fee, reading, “Adult surcharge: For adults unable to parent $$$.” The Reddit post, captioned “This restaurant charges you extra for bad parenting,” quickly gained attention and led to further discussions on various online platforms.

Reviews on Google, where customers shared their experiences with the restaurant, reflected the controversy. One customer, Danielle Hampy, rated the establishment with one star out of five, recounting an incident where the owner allegedly berated her family for her children’s behavior. According to her account, they were told to “go to Burger King and Walmart” and labeled as “bad parents.” The restaurant’s management reportedly added a $50 surcharge for their “bad children.”

Another reviewer, Kyle Landmann, claimed that the owner added a $50 fee to his bill due to his children’s behavior, despite them being well-behaved during the meal.

One review warned parents to steer clear of Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, emphasizing their unfavorable experience with the staff’s attitude towards families with children.

The restaurant’s policy and pricing structure raised concerns among Reddit users and online reviewers. Some questioned the establishment’s overall approach, while others expressed hesitation about dining there, given the various fees and surcharges mentioned on the menu.

Toccoa Riverside Restaurant has yet to respond to the growing controversy and criticisms surrounding its “bad parenting” fee and overall customer experience.
