The Campaign Trail and The Ballot Box
President Donald Trump has hit the road hard to help Republicans win the midterms. He visited Texas twice in the last eight days, along with Oklahoma and Ohio. According to him, the base should cast ballots as though he were a candidate. The election decides who runs Congress until 2029, and it is just over three weeks away. Per Breitbart News, he plans to visit New York on Friday and Tennessee on Saturday. Chris LaCivita, a co-manager for Trump’s 2024 campaign, spoke to the outlet about the strategy. He said polls are often “contrived” because they survey too many Democrats who may not vote. LaCivita argued that news organizations use subscription lines to get “predetermined outcomes” early in the process.
Voters Still Feel The Pain
Voters elected Trump to fix high prices, yet many feel no relief just yet. RealClearPolitics polling shows Trump’s job approval on inflation sits at just 27.3%. A massive 69.3% of people disapprove of his handling of the cost of living. The Washington Examiner reports that voters understand how tariffs and the Iran war raise prices. However, they often do not see how Democratic spending fuels inflation. Trump acknowledged the pain at the pump while speaking in Dallas last month. “Right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward,” he told reporters. He added that it might “take a little bit longer than the midterm” for things to settle.
Local Candidates Break From The Plan
Some Republican candidates are now distancing themselves from the tariff and war policies. Former Rep. Mike Rogers is running for Senate in Michigan, a key battleground state. A commercial featured him telling Michigan voters that Canada is not our enemy. “We need to end this tariff war — now,” stated Rogers. He promised to bring both parties together to lower prices as his “job No. 1.” Trump remains confident despite the economic frustration in states like Nebraska. “It’s going to end very soon, and your prices are going to come down,” he said on the campaign trail. He insisted that “All your prices have been tumbling down” as he campaigned in the state. The question remains whether voters will wait for these promises or hold current leaders accountable for today’s costs.
