Actress Cameron Diaz recently made some controversial comments about the institution of marriage, stating that society should “normalize” the idea of couples sleeping in separate bedrooms. The 51-year-old Hollywood star, who has been married to Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden since 2015, believes that having separate spaces can be healthy for a relationship.

Diaz’s comments were made during an appearance on the “Lipstick on the Rim” podcast, where she discussed her personal views on marriage and sleeping arrangements. When one of the hosts mentioned her husband’s snoring, Diaz responded by saying that she thinks “we should normalize separate bedrooms.”

The actress then went on to explain her idea of living in separate bedrooms but still having a family house in the middle. She stated that each individual would have their own space and then could “convene in the bedroom” for intimate moments.

“We should normalize separate bedrooms,” Diaz said. “To me, I would literally, I have my house, you have yours. We have the family house in the middle. I will go and sleep in my room. You go sleep in your room. I’m fine.”

“And we have the bedroom in the middle that we can convene in for our relations,” she added.

Diaz’s stance on this topic has caused some controversy, with many questioning the traditional idea of a husband and wife sharing a bedroom. However, she does not seem bothered by the potential backlash, jokingly saying, “I’ve already said it. By the way, I don’t feel that way now because my husband is so wonderful.”

The concept of couples sleeping in separate bedrooms is not new in Hollywood, as actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband, Brad Falchuk, also have separate living spaces. In a 2019 interview with The Sunday Times, Paltrow mentioned that many of her married friends have praised their living arrangement and believe it is ideal.

Additionally, it has been rumored that Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip also slept in separate bedrooms. According to Prince Philip’s cousin, Lady Pamela Hicks, this was a common practice among the upper class in England and did not affect the strength of their relationship.

While Diaz’s comments may be seen as controversial, it is important to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to relationships and marriage. Each couple should do what works for them and their individual needs. It is encouraging to see Diaz and other celebrities speaking out about alternative practices and challenging societal norms.

Cameron Diaz has sparked a conversation about the idea of married couples sleeping in separate bedrooms. While some may find this controversial, her comments have shed light on the fact that there are different ways to approach relationships and marriage.
